Ikariam mini map

This is another take on ImmortalNights' really neat graphics and visualization Ikariam 2D Island Map, suitable for generating small maps of your in-game neighbourhood. It uses the same data collected in that thread but shows only a bite-size portion of the map, the dimensions, center point and server all up to you by editing the url.

For instance, x=50&y=50&w=33&h=33 shows the middle third of the map.

To turn islands into clickable links, you can provide the server name too; here is the top left corner of the test server: s=s666.ikariam.org&x=16&y=16&w=33&h=33

Island colours show what trade good the island has, and a lighter background means the wonder on the island is one of those granting a 10% resource bonus. Hover islands for their name, coordinates and wonder. Enjoy!

X = across= 50

Quite correct, yes -- or, in game terms: [XX:YY]. What is up-screen or north in the in-game world view, is in the top left corner in this minimap view (since it uses an orthonormal, rather than isometric, perspective).

link works just fine here... using FF, I see no reason why an Email would open...

hmm.... I regulary use a browser called Maxthon which is a frontend for IE.... it does not work on it.
It does work on firefox(which I ended up using for Ikariam because of the greasemonkey scripts) but the island links don't work.

The link tries to access:

instead of:

It will probably remain dysfunctional in IE based browsers (or other browsers with subpar web standards compliance) until IE catches up from its decade or so in stasis. I only test it in Firefox myself, so other browsers it happens to work in are mostly a neat bonus. :-) (Fixes are of course welcome, as always.)

If you provide a link to the minimap that renders broken links like that, I might be able to fix the problem. And if it was one of those I gave (which one?), I will probably need more info on browser version and OS to figure it out, if I can at all. (I might have to pass the issue on to other developers here that have an environment that can reproduce the error, and that would care for fixing it, though, but that information would at least help them debug it.)

Added two new parameters: r=0 turns off the resource colouring, so the map looks just like the Ikariam 2D Map (or 1 and 2, to turn island colours and wonder bonus backgrounds on individually).

The second new parameter lets you paint any number of islands on the map in any colour you want, which is good for doing strategic alliance maps and the like. Just add a parameter whose name is the colour you want (all HTML colours valid; feel free to leave out the leading #, if you don't like URL quoting). As the value, provide a comma-separated list of island id:s or coordinates. Examples:

(Two different way of achieving the exact same result.)

You can pick other colour intensities than the default 50% too, if you like (values given are between 0 and 100; the lower half of the range looks best):

r=0&white/40=18&000/20=50:51

Question for alliance generals / admins: what important features does this tool currently lack for doing the kind of alliance maps you use? I am a bit surprised there has been so little reaction about it -- though I admittedly lazied out of providing screen shots for the top post. Here's one, though:

I really like the look of this, but am perhaps a bit dense in understanding how it all works. So a couple of questions if I may

1. Do we link to your site and just change the parameters you have given us as examples?
2. I would like to use it to show all alliance members, so presumably I can colour islands as per your instructions above. However, our alliance is over 80 members spread across the world, would that be an issue?
3. When colouring islands how do you know the island number?
4. Moving it forward, instead of the resource name, would we be able to add our own text (probably as parameters) I am thinking of being able to display alliance member names against the islands.

Sure; go ahead -- or copy the files it uses to your own server, if you so prefer. It doesn't use any server-side logic, so it can be served from anywhere, including your local hard disk.

Use either their XX:YY coordinates, or the numeric id in the url of each island (you find them in the island URLs, in-game or on-map. Example: for the island http://s666.ikariam.org/index.php?view=island&id=48, the id is 48 (52:52 works just as well, though).

No promises from my end, but anyone good with HTML can certainly do that kind of thing, too. The easiest way is probably to copy all the files to your own hard disk or server and add text annotations at your leisure. The files you need (all put in the same directory):

ecmanaut: can i use the information in http://ecmanaut.googlecode.com/svn/trunk…m-islandData.js (or parts of it)?
also, do you (or someone who checks submitted scripts) know if using it with an add-on ingame would be allowed? or would it depend on how the information is used?
i wanted to add the type of luxury good on alliance members' town into the towns list in the diplomacy/embassy view

Reuse however you like -- whether the script gets allowed or not depends on whether you follow the rules for greasemonkey scripts and whether Gameforge likes your script when you post it to the mods for approval. (Strictly speaking, only the latter matters, but you are likelier to get approved if you abide by the first too).
